The Vastness of the Oceans, Rogue Waves, and a Hefty Dose of Daring
Since she was a girl sailor Sanni Beucke dreamt of winning an Olympic medal. In 2021, after several attempts, she won silver in the 49erFX at the Tokyo Olympics. At the height of her career she decided to face up to a new challenge: offshore sailing.
In 2023, she was the only German woman to sail in the Ocean Race, a team regatta across all the world's oceans. Now she wants more.
In 2028, she wants to take part in the Vendée Globe. The toughest sailing regatta in the world, 50.000 kilometers alone at sea, through the notorious Southern Ocean, which has already cost many their lives.
Her path to get there is tough. As an offshore sailor, you expose yourself to the most difficult conditions. Rarely do you experience such highs and lows as you do during the days and nights you spend drifting alone in your boat across the ocean.
Sanni believes: You have to be brave in life and dare something - even if the consequences are uncertain. She wants to be a role model. Especially for young women. She wants to show them that anything is possible. That's why she launched her campaign "This Race is Female", which she is promoting on her sails around the globe.
Her message is: Dream big, the world is your oyster. Be like a pirate at heart: wild and free. Be like a force of nature: strong and unstoppable.
Read Sanni's adventurous story in "Against the Wind". It will be published → by Droemer on March 2024.
