Nobel laureates with a connection to photonics since the invention of the laser in 1960
When Alfred Nobel dedicated his legacy to the science prizes named after him in 1895, photonics was not yet an established research discipline in its own right. This changed in 1960 when the laser was invented. Since then, outstanding scientists in the field of photonics have regularly been awarded Nobel Prizes. And the success story continues.
As the Nobel Prizes for photonics researchers show, the research discipline relies on global research efforts. However, at least at the time of the award ceremony, most of the researchers lived in the United States.
A very warm thank you to all the companies and institutes that made this publication possible.
