Seeing clearly again

From the age of 60 onwards, most people get a slight cataract – known as the grey star. Treating cataracts is the most common operation around the world. For 2022, the WHO reported more than 29 million cataract operations. The use of the femtosecond laser with ultra-short pulses allows a precise and careful operation.

The eye's lens, like a camera lens, focuses light on the retina. With increasing age, cloudiness might block the light. An artificial lens can fix this.

Lens exchange begins by opening the lens capsule, perfectly done with a femtosecond laser.

The laser fragmens the lens into tiny cubes.

The laser cuts openings for small tool inserts.

The scrap lens is sucked off.

The artificial intraocular lens is placed inside the eye. Good sight for many years to come!

A very warm thank you to all the companies and institutes that made this publication possible.
